Android Oreo usage grows to 12.1 percent in Google’s latest stats

Did you notice that Google didn’t share any Android distribution numbers for June 2018? So did we, but the good news is that Google is back today with stats for July.

Android Oreo hit a milestone in Google’s July 2018 distribution numbers, more than doubling its overall usage from May 2018 to finish at 12.1 percent usage in July 2018. Android Nougat wasn’t so lucky slipping a bit to finish at 30.8 percent usage in July. Android Marshmallow usage dropped as well, going from 25.5 percent in May to 23.5 percent in July.

Usage of Android Lollipop slipped from May to July, too, going from 22.4 percent to 20.4 percent, respectively. Android KitKat usage fell to 9.1 percent this month and overall usage of Android Jelly Bean dropped to 3.6 percent. Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Android Gingerbread are still hanging around, but usage of both versions dropped a smidge to finish at 0.3 and 0.2 percent, respectively.

There’s not a whole lot that’s surprising about Google’s latest round of Android distribution numbers, but it’s good to see usage of Android Oreo continue to grow while usage of other versions fall. With new devices coming to market with Oreo in tow, including the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, expect usage of Android 8.0 and 8.1 to continue to climb in the coming months.
