Relive the book and movie experience with Maze Runner game

Ida Torres

It seems like America has fallen in love with Maze Runner, if book sales and the box-office this weekend are any indications. The movie based on the book series by James Dashner took top spot in most theatres in the country. Now mobile gamers will have the chance to experience being a Glader in the new movie tie-in Android game, of course also called The Maze Runner.

However, if you expect the game to be as complicated as the book or movie, you might end up a bit disappointed because it is simply an endless runner game. Although, based on the concept of the story, it is quite understandable that this is the kind of game they would make. The story is about a group of boys or runners who everyday try to run into the maze to try to figure out how to escape from the Glade where they are trapped with no idea or memory why they were there in the first place. So it does make sense that you would have an endless runner game for this tie-in.

Using touch and tilting motions, you can run, jump and slide, just like you would in other games of this type. You can choose which film character you would like to be while you do your running, in a race against time before the maze closes and you are trapped inside. There are also hidden clues which you can collect and you can also unlock new levels for each successful run. For example, once you get through a few runs, you’ll have the ability to run on walls, parkour style.

The graphics and music are also in keeping with the movie adaptation, but of course a little less dark (it would be hard to go all dark and gloomy in an endless runner game). You have to spend $3.99 to play this game though, but if you really loved the movie and want to live vicariously through the Gladers (well, at least just the running part), you can purchase this through the Google Play Store.
