HTC launches budget Desire 12s smartphone

Believe it or not, HTC is still kicking and just released a new smartphone. That being said, it’s not anything to write home about. The HTC Desire 12s is a budget device being launched in Taiwan. Its specs are modest, including the Snapdragon 435 processor, which is now three years old. The Desire 12s also features a 5.4-inch 1440×720 display, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, and a 3075mAh battery.

On the rear of the Desire 12s lies a 13-megapixel camera that does feature an f/2.0 aperture and speedy phase detection autofocus. The front camera is a rather unexciting 13-megapixel shooter. HTC has outfitted the Desire 12s with dual SIM card slots and both feature support for VoLTE.

Unfortunately, the Desire 12s is launching with Android 8.1 Oreo and HTC hasn’t said anything about an update to Pie.

The HTC Desire 12s is priced at NT $5990 ($195 USD) for the lower-end variant and NT $6990 ($227 USD) for the top-end model.

What are your thoughts on HTC’s latest device? Are you surprised that the company is still around?
