RED Hydrogen One launches at carriers on November 2

RED, the camera company that is building a smartphone, was initially aiming to launch its first handset this summer, but it looks like it will miss that window by a bit.

According to the company, by way of Droid-Life, it looks like a release is starting to get nailed down after an initial roadblock connected to the upcoming smartphone’s certification process. For folks who pre-ordered the Hydrogen One, that device will arrive for those folks on October 9. Meanwhile, if you’ve been waiting to see the handset arrive on a carrier, you’ll be able to buy one beginning November 2 from AT&T, Verizon, and Telcel.

The Hydrogen One will be available from carriers in Black and Shadow, with the aluminum model being the only one available at launch. If you plan on picking one up, it’ll cost $1,295. If you want the titanium version directly from a carrier, it will arrive in 2019 and will be in short supply.

Those who pre-ordered will begin getting their phones on October 9. The aluminum model will ship first, with the titanium option arriving after that. RED says the titanium version is “very challenging” in the production, so the company is already talking about how hard it might be to get a titanium version if you didn’t pre-order.

So, there we have it. October 9 for those who pre-ordered and November 2 for those who are waiting for the carrier launch. Which one are you?
