Moto’s 2018 line of phones may have leaked
Every now and then, there comes a leak of such large proportions that it’s easier to say that a lot of phones have leaked, rather than singling out individual devices. Today is one of those days, as Droid-Life has released details on what appears to be most of Lenovo’s Moto devices for 2018. The leak includes the X line, Z line, and the G line. Droid-Life was unable to verify the information with another source, so do take the info with a grain of salt.
Moto X5
The Moto X5 will feature a 5.9-inch FHD+ 18:9 display with minimal bezels that create a split at the top of the display to make room for dual front-facing cameras and a speaker, much like the iPhone X. There are also two rear cameras. A fingerprint reader may or may not be present, as there isn’t a scanner on the front of the device, though the rear logo could function as a scanner. There is, however, a white software button at the bottom of the display which will likely act as a swipe-based alternative to Android’s standard back/home/task switcher button set-up. A new software feature called Moto XP may also be introduced.
Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play
The Moto G6 series is adopting the design of the Moto X4, with a protruding rear camera and 3D glass back. It’s easier to break down the specs by bullets, so here’s what the G6 will offer:
- 5.7-inch FHD+ display (18:9 ratio)
- Snapdragon 450 processor
- 3GB/4GB RAM
- 32GB/64GB storage
- 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear cameras
- 16-megapixel front camera
- 3000mAh battery
- Fingerprint scanner
And here’s what the G6 Plus will offer:
- 5.93-inch FHD+ display (18:9 ratio)
- Snapdragon 630 processor
- 3GB/4GB/6GB RAM
- 32GB/64GB storage
- 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear cameras
- 16-megapixel front camera
- 3200mAh battery
- Fingerprint scanner
Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play
The Moto Z line will feature an all-display front, doing away with a physical button beneath the screen. Both devices will have a 6-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, though there may be a future Moto Z3 device with a higher-res display. Like the Moto X5, the Z3 devices feature a white software button which offers a swipe-based alternative to the standard Android navigation keys. There isn’t a visible fingerprint reader, but it could be hidden beneath the rear Motorola logo, or it could also be built into the display.
Additionally, Droid-Life received a picture of the Moto Z3 with a 5G Moto Mod fitted on the back. Lenovo has openly discussed the possibility of creating a 5G Moto Mod, so there is reason to believe this could be real. That being said, it may also be nothing more than a concept image.
The Moto G series is expected to launch at MWC, while the X and Z series may not launch until summer 2018. Stay tuned for more updates regarding Motorola’s future devices.
