Samsung Galaxy Note 8 getting special edition 2018 Winter Olympics model
After creating a special edition Galaxy S7 edge for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Samsung is once again making a limited edition phone for the 2018 Winter Games.
A new version of the Galaxy Note 8 called the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition is now official. It’s got a white back plate and a gold outer edge along with a white and gold S Pen to match.
Samsung is also loading some Olympics-themed software on this device. Included are PyeongChang 2018-themed wallpapers as well as some “useful apps” that Samsung says will help Olympians get the most of their Winter Olympics experience.
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition will be given out to all Olympians in this year’s games as well as the staff of the International Olympic Committee and the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games. More than 4,000 units will be given out in all.
Now for the bad news. Unlike the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition that Samsung made for the 2016 Summer Games, this special Galaxy Note 8 will not be offered to the public.
The two-tone look of this PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition won’t appeal to everyone, but we think it looks pretty snazzy. Regardless of its looks, the limited edition nature of this Galaxy Note 8 is sure to make it appealing to some people. Considering that the only way to get one is to be an Olympian or a staff member of the ICC or POCOG, though, it’s unlikely that most of us will ever get our hands on one.
Samsung also confirmed that it’s giving Galaxy Note 8 phones to all Paralympians at the Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Each person will get the Galaxy Note 8 as well as cases that feature the Paralympic Games logo.
