Google posts registration, pricing information for I/O 2014

Every year there’s one event Google geeks and Android enthusiasts look forward to more than Christmas, their birthdays and everything else combined: Google I/O. Developer sessions for everything Google take place, products are announced, updates are discussed and sometimes people even jump out of airplanes. Yes, Google I/O is a fun, exciting event for anyone looking to attend. And this year, Google is switching up how to make that happen.

In the past, I/O attendees were forced to smash refresh in their browser of choice for a lucky chance to buy an I/O ticket. If you weren’t readily available on the designated morning, too bad. This year is going to be different. From April 8 through 10, Google is going to allow anyone with a Google+ account and Google Wallet to sign up to go. After April 10, Google will “randomly” select applicants and offer them their golden ticket. For a normal attendee it’s going to be $900, while an academic ticket will cost you $300. As for where and when I/O itself takes places, it’s at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco from June 25 through the 26.

If you can’t go don’t worry. As usual, Google will be live streaming anything and everything the event has to offer. Of course you won’t get any free Chromebooks, Nexus phones, tablets, the chance to buy Google Glass early or access to whatever else Google has planned for the event. But that’s not what counts. You want to go for the information and networking alone, right? Right?
