Honor 8X features 6.5-inch display with a notch, octa-core Kirin 710 processor

The Honor 7X has been a worthwhile option for folks in the market for an affordable Android smartphone, and now the new version is ready to go.

Meet the Honor 8X. This device offers several upgrades over the Honor 7X, but perhaps the most notable is the screen. The 6.5-inch 2340×1080 display is larger than the 5.93-inch screen on the Honor 7X, and it features a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and has also embraced the notch. Combining that notch with slim bezels and you get a phone with a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The dual rear camera setup of the Honor 8X includes a 20MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and Phase Detection Autofocus and a 2MP secondary sensor. Honor has added some software features, like the ability to recognize 22 different categories and 500 scenarios in real-time as well as 3D portrait lighting and super slow-motion video capture at 480fps. Around front there’s a 16MP camera with an enhanced ISO to allow twice as much light into the camera.

Inside the body of the Honor 8X — which includes 2.5D double texture aurora glass and a metal middle frame — there’s an octa-core Kirin 710 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of built-in storage. Honor has included a microSD card slot, too, in case you need additional storage. Powering this whole package is a 3750mAh battery.

Other features of the Honor 8X include a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual SIM slots, a rear fingerprint reader, and face unlock. There are black, blue, and red color options, too. Android Oreo comes preloaded on the Honor 8X along with Huawei’s custom EMUI 8.2 user interface.

The Honor 8X was first announced for China earlier this month, and now the device is making its international debut. Honor hasn’t yet announced the 8X’s launch timing or price tag, but once those details are revealed, we’ll be sure to let you know.

With the Honor 7X, Huawei’s Honor sub-brand offered a good-looking phone with respectable features and an aggressive price tag. The Honor 8X picks up right where the 7X left off, adopting trends in mobile like a notch and face unlock while slimming the bezels and beefing up the specs a bit. We’ll have to wait until we get an Honor 8X in our hands before we can make any judgments about its performance, but if you’re in the market for an affordable Android smartphone, the 8X looks like one to keep in mind.
