Meizu’s Flyme OS makes it to the Google Nexus 5
Xioami is not the only Chinese manufacturer pushing a heavily re-designed custom Android OS (called MIUI) for its devices, Meizu isn’t far behind with the Flyme OS. This Android 4.4 variant was designed by Meizu mainly for their MX line of smartphones, but an XDA forum member has ported it for the Google Nexus 5 – allowing the OS some viability outside of Meizu’s phones.
XDA forum member “Vpabc” posted the port for the Nexus 5 via the famed XDA forums saying this is an official port – meaning that Meizu is exploring life for Flyme OS outside of just their phones. Flyme OS is based mostly on CyanogenMod’s CM11, but you won’t make that connection easily if you use the OS.
The look and feel of Flyme OS is very different to the custom ROMs available for Android devices out there, so this might be an option for someone looking to change things up a bit and going for a different feel in their device’s OS. The version posted is considered a “stable” version, so it will pretty much work with you Nexus 5. There are some bugs though, so the experience will not be as perfect as you want it to be – but it is tolerable.
The warning is that as ever, when switching up ROMs, make sure that you have a stable backup available. For those who are interested, the ROM is downloadable via the official XDA thread here. Enjoy!
