ASUS bringing the ROG Phone to the US on October 18

The proliferation of gaming phones started in 2018 but may be one of the defining smartphone trends of 2019. Or it might fizzle and die, who knows? But ASUS hopped in on the trend with the crazy ROG Phone, and now we know that it’s coming to the US soon.

The company is holding an event on October 18 for the device. It’s not stated that it’s related to the ROG Phone, but the photo of the tweet shows the back of the device covered in shadows.

The ASUS ROG Phone features a 6-inch 18:9 FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 512GB of storage, dual 12MP + 8MP cameras with a wide angle sensor, front-facing stereo speakers, and a 4,000mAh battery. There are also AirTriggers, which are touch sensors on the side of the device to emulate a controller’s triggers.

But the main draw of the device is the lineup of the accessories. There’s a dock that supports a second screen, a controller add-on, and an active cooler. It’s a pretty wild setup.

Smartphone gaming isn’t to the level of a portable console, but well ported games like PUBG and Fortnite are pushing our smartphones in the right direction. We’ll see of RGB-laden devices laden in armor will take off.
