Google News app getting a dark theme

Recently we’ve seen Google apps like Phone and YouTube get dark themes, and next up is Google News.

Google News is gaining a dark theme with the update to version 5.5. The update is now rolling out through the Play Store, so keep an eye out for it. Once you get it, you can activate the dark theme by going into Settings and finding the toggle in the “General” section. There you can choose when you want the dark theme: Always, Automatically (at night and battery saver), Battery saver only, and Never.

When activated, the dark theme will turn the background of your Google News app a dark gray and make the text white. That should make it much easier to read in dark environments, like before you go to bed.

It’s good to see Google continue to update its Android apps with a dark theme. The feature can come in handy when you’re using your phone in the dark because it means you won’t be blinded by a bright white UI, and some people just prefer the darker user interface.
