Amazon updates Echo smart speakers, including bigger Echo Show and new Echo Sub
Today’s a big day for Amazon, as the company announced several new products in its Echo family of smart speakers. Here’s how what they look like:
The all-new Echo Dot (shown above) features an updated design that’s covered in fabric rather than the hard plastic exterior of previous models. It’s got improved sound, too, along with Bluetooth and 3.5mm connectivity so that you can connect another speaker to it. And since it’s an Echo device, it’s got Amazon’s Alexa assistant and all the power that it comes with. The 3rd gen Echo Dot is now available for pre-order for $49.99 ahead of its October 11th launch.
The Echo Plus is getting an update, too, complete with an updated design that decks it out in fabric. There are new premium speakers in this Echo Plus, too, and like the original Echo Plus before it, this new model comes with a built-in smart home hub to help you more easily control smart lights, switches, sensors, and more. The 2nd gen Echo Plus can now be pre-ordered for $149.99 and will launch on October 11th.
The third device getting an update today is the Echo Show. This is perhaps the biggest upgrade, with the 2nd gen Echo Show boasting a larger 10.1-inch HD touchscreen and improved audio with dual, side-firing 2-inch Neodymium drivers, a passive bass radiator, and Dolby processing. Like the Echo Plus, the Echo Show also includes a built-in smart home hub. You can now pre-order the new Echo Show for $229.99 ahead of its October 11th launch.
Finally, there’s the new brand new Echo Sub. This device can be paired with an Echo or Echo Plus device, or if you have two Echo or Echo Plus models, you can get stereo 2.1 sound. The Echo Sub packs a 6-inch woofer to deliver down-firing 100W bass sound, and it’s now available for pre-order for $129.99 ahead of its October 11th release.
These new Echo models look like solid additions to Amazon’s lineup. The Echo Dot and Echo Plus have better looks and better sound, two things that are important for a smart speaker that’ll always be sitting out, while the Echo Show has a larger screen that’ll be useful for watching videos and recipes. And then there’s the Echo Sub, which can add some real bass to the music that you pump out of your Echo speakers.
Are you going to pre-order any of these devices?
