Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker features Bixby

There are quite a few different smart speakers to choose from right now, and Samsung is officially jumping into the mix.

On Thursday, following the official unveiling of both the new Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Note 9, Samsung also took the wraps off its newest device: the Galaxy Home smart speaker. According to the company, this is a device that’s meant to combine “elegant design” and “amazing sound” into one package, so it appears Samsung is going after Apple, Sonos, and others, as it launches a speaker designed for higher performance when it comes to audio quality.

The Galaxy Home smart speaker is wrapped in fabric and, interestingly enough, is elevated off whatever surface it might be placed on by three metal legs. There are control buttons on the flat top, which will let owners change the volume and control media playback.

Samsung built a subwoofer and six speakers into the Galaxy Home which the company says will offer surround sound-style audio. Of course, there has to be an assistant built into the software, too, and instead of opting for Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, Samsung’s tapping its own offering, Bixby. Owners simply need to say, “Hi, Bixby” to activate the digital personal assistant.

That’s about all we have at this point, though. Samsung unveiled the speaker but didn’t go all out in announcing it. No word on a launch date or pricing yet, either. The company says it will be offering up more on the new Galaxy Home smart speaker in November during a developers conference it plans on hosting.

So, what do you think of the Galaxy Home smart speaker? Plan on putting it in your home when you can, depending on price?
