Google’s ‘Campfire’ may add Windows 10 dual-boot option to Chromebooks

As helpful as a Chromebook may be, there are still some instances where an owner might need or want access to Microsoft’s Windows 10 desktop operating system. And it looks like Google is working on a way to facilitate that.

According to a report from XDA Developers, Google is working on a project called “Campfire” which would give Chromebook owners the ability to dual-boot Windows 10 on their machine. Google is working towards earning Microsoft’s hardware certification for the Pixelbook.

It has also been discovered that Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Certification Kit is in the development builds of Chrome OS, which indicates that Google may be planning on expanding the dual-boot feature to a wider range of Chromebooks rather than just the Pixelbook. If Campfire is ready, it’s rumored to launch on the Pixelbook soon.

However, one thing to take note of: Chromebooks that support the dual-boot option will need the storage to take advantage of it. Machines with only 16GB of built-in storage probably won’t be able to run it. Chromebooks will likely need at least 40GB of storage to take advantage of the feature, with Windows 10 taking up 30GB.
