Doogee enters the gaming phone market with the S70

The gaming phone market is gaining traction with companies like Razer and ASUS (with the ROG phone) hopping in and making phones ranging from interesting to just plain crazy.

Doogee is a Chinese company known for making budget phones that don’t come to the US, but the newly announced S70 is a bit different. It combines the ideas of a gaming phone and a rugged phone, resulting in something that looks quite polarizing.

For specs, you get a 5.99-inch 1080p FHD+ LG panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio, a mid-range MediaTek Helio P23 processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage with a microSD slot, dual 12MP + 5MP cameras, and a huge 5,500mAh battery. It also features IP68 water resistance and what is claimed to be a durable plastic body with aluminum alloy frame.

On the side is a game mode button. This will close background apps, silence notifications, and ignore calls. You can also connect a controller peripheral to the top, though it needs to be connected with Bluetooth despite being made for the phone. You do get an analog stick which is pretty nice.

The phone ignores the current trend of minimal bezels for a very chunky design. While many gaming phones are already a bit bulky and tacky looking, the rugged aspect takes it to a new level. We can imagine a lot of people won’t like how this device looks.

There is no concrete info on launch date or price yet, but we can expect it to be priced fairly reasonably when it launches. It probably won’t come to the US as well. Nonetheless, it may be an interesting budget gaming phone (whatever “gaming phone” means).
