Amazon teams up with Best Buy to sell Fire TV Edition smart TVs

Amazon is no stranger to smart products, filling houses with a variety of devices that include the company’s digital assistant, Alexa. And now Amazon is making a concerted effort in the smart TV market, too.

Amazon has announced an exclusive partnership with the big box retailer Best Buy, where the pair of companies will work together to sell Fire TV Edition smart TVs. They will be available from Best Buy’s retail stores and website, as well as sold by Best Buy through Amazon.

The partnership starts this summer and is expected to last for several years. The first TVs will be offered from Toshiba. Best Buy, for its part, says it is committed to selling more than 10 different smart TVs from not only Toshiba, but also Insignia. At some point in the future both 4K and standard HD models will be available.

As for the TVs themselves, Alexa will be built in and owners will be able to use the personal assistant to do a variety of things, including changing the channels. The standard streaming options will be available out of the box, and owners will be able to connect a TV antenna as well if they just want to watch the broadcast channels.

There is no word on exact release date just yet, or specific models or pricing. But if this partnership sounds good to you, the first Fire TV Edition smart TVs will arrive this summer.
