Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ being updated to Android 8.0

If you’re under the Verizon Wireless banner and own either the Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, there is good news heading your way today.

As first reported today by Droid-Life, what started as a few Galaxy S8 owners saying that they had received an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 8.0 Oreo has become a full-fledged confirmation from Big Red that the Android 8.0 Oreo update is indeed rolling out to both handsets beginning today, March 15.

Verizon has published documentation for both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ that confirms the update to Android 8.0. In them, VZW details the new features that both handsets will receive, including picture-in-picture, notification dots, autofill, and more. The update for both smartphones will also include an update to Samsung Experience 9.0 and the February 2018 Android security patches.

If you own a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, you can head into the Settings app and try to pull down the OTA software update on your own. These types of updates happen over time, though, so if you don’t see the update just yet, stay tuned as it should arrive soon.
