Project Fi now supports 170 countries for international travel

One of Project Fi‘s goals since launch has been to support some pretty substantial international coverage, with more than 100 countries across the globe supported with free roaming.

That number has now increased quite a bit, with Google announcing that Project Fi now officially supports 170 countries. The new additions include Nigeria, Belize, Uzbekistan, Uganda, and many others. In each of the cases, free roaming is covered while you’re visiting.

Being able to determine if a country you are visiting is supported by Project Fi is important, as it can help with planning. As such, Google has announced a new feature that will tie directly into international flight information gained from your Gmail account. If you are traveling to a place that is supported by Project Fi, the official app will send you a notification letting you know you’re covered during your travels. The notifications can be disabled if you’d rather not receive them.

Planning for an international trip can be tough, especially when it comes to planning for phone coverage, but Google’s efforts to not only support a variety of international locations, but also let you know ahead of time if you’re covered, should help quite a bit.
