Samsung Galaxy S8 Active leaks again, this time in hands-on photos
To date, we’ve seen a couple of Galaxy S8 Active images leak that give us a basic idea of what the unannounced phone looks like. Now another GS8 Active image leak has surfaced, but this one offers a much better look at the device.
Several hands-on photos of the Galaxy S8 Active have been posted to Reddit. The original leaker says that they managed to get hold of the unannounced phone thanks to a friend that works for Samsung.
The Galaxy S8 Active shown in these photos looks like a toughened Galaxy S8, swapping the GS8’s glass back for polycarbonate and adding thick metal edges. The GS8 Active ditches the curved edge display found on the standard GS8 but does keep the GS8’s on-screen navigation buttons, which is a change from previous Galaxy S Active phones that had a physical home button.
The source of this leak says that the Galaxy S8 Active’s screen seems to be the same size as the regular Galaxy S8, which has a 5.8-inch display, and that its got a 4000mAh battery. To compare, the standard Galaxy S8 has a 3000mAh battery. Also of note is that instead of a customizable Active button like the one on previous Galaxy S Active phones, this Galaxy S8 Active has a Bixby button like the GS8. Finally, the Galaxy S8 Active is said to have the model number SM-G892A, and the device is SIM-locked to AT&T.
We’ve seen the Galaxy S8 Active pass through the Qi Wireless Power Consortium and the FCC, so it’s already cleared some hurdles on its way to an official launch. Unfortunately, we still don’t know when that launch will be. Stay tuned.
