Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus now official with secondary screens, dual cameras

Rumors have been swirling that Meizu was on the cusp of announcing at least one new smartphone with a secondary display, but not in the same way as LG’s V-series. And sure enough, those rumors were true.

Today Meizu officially announced the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus, both of which not only feature a secondary display, but also boast a pair of dual rear cameras. As for the rest of the specs sheet, both devices have similar features across the board, including a MediaTek Helios X30 processor, a USB Type-C port, one 12MP color sensor and a 12MP monochrome sensor on the back, and a 16MP front-facing camera.

Both devices run Android 7.0 Nougat below Meizu’s Flyme OS 6. They also boast a secondary Super AMOLED display on their backs which measures in at two inches. This secondary screen lets owners control music playback, set wallpapers, and can even be used as a viewfinder for the cameras. It can show notifications, the time, and more, too.

Now for the differences. The Meizu Pro 7 features a 5.2-inch FHD Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, and a battery that measures in at 3000mAh. Meanwhile, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus features a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, 6GB of RAM, either 64GB of 128GB of built-in storage, and a 3500mAh battery.

Pricing and availability remain a mystery. It’s likely that these Meizu handsets will be sold exclusively in China, at least for a little while.
