KickMaterial Released Under Apache License On Github

kickmat

In an unexpected move, KickMaterial the Material Design Kickstarter app shutdown before launch has been uploaded to Github under an Apache license after the developers were told they were still unable to upload to the Play Store.

Readers who have been following its progress will recall that Kickstarter’s legal department originally ordered the developers to remove all trademarked material such as the KS logo and name, this was handled quickly and was met by another order to cease use of the API, an integral part of the app. At the time the creators Grzegorz Oksiuta and Outline shut down the project fearing the legal ramifications and had this to say.

“To be honest, we could release it even tomorrow. Unfortunately folks from Kickstarter wrote to us and said that we cannot do this and now we actually don’t know what to do … … They were very clear that we cannot publish”

For now, it seems like we may never see KickMaterial on the Play Store but that doesn’t mean it has to be the end of this well-designed app. You can find the code on Github below. Otherwise, Kickstarter has their own Android app which can be found here. Stay tuned for updates.
