Some big news coming out of the world of game development. Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games has come out today to announce that the new version of their game development engine, Unreal Engine 4, will be free and available to anyone who wants to make video games. That can be PC, mobile, console, whatever.

There have been plenty of great game development engines made available for free, usually with some stipulations regarding licensing if you make games for certain platforms or make a certain amount of money. Unity3D is a good example of a free game development engine that has been used to make some fantastic video games across all platforms, and it is free to download and use. You need to buy licensing for certain platforms.

Unreal Engine 4 has now been made freely available for anyone to use to make video games. There is one stipulation though, if you make over $3000 a quarter, you have to pay out 5% for licensing. Considering this is arguably one of the most powerful game engines available, 5% if you make money is a pretty awesome deal.

You can check out the full announcement in the video above. So who is going to take advantage of this and start using Unreal Engine 4?
