Google Play services 7.0 update improves locations and Google Fit
A new update is pushing out to Google Play services, and it brings the app to version 7.0. The update brings in several notable changes, not the least of which is improved support of locations and places. If a necessary location setting isn’t on, there’s now a standardized dialog box that allows you to enable the setting with a single click. The Places API is also improving, allowing users to easily pick a place with info provided by Google’s database of places, making the job of developers much easier.
Google Fit is also getting a boost. Rather than having one large API, Google Fit is now getting split into several APIs, allowing developers to choose which features are integrated into their apps. The split also drastically lowers the background memory usage that was found with the original Google Fit API.
The update also includes some other changes to Google Play services such as mobile ads and Google Play Games. Notably with Play Games, games can now connect to nearby smartphones and tablets to allow them to act as controllers for games being played on a TV. The update will be rolling out over the next few days and you can find more details at the source link below.
