Back in December 2014 we reported on Sonic Runners coming to mobile this year which is being developed by the Sonic Team instead of SEGA actually doing it. Unfortunately, when we reported on the game, there were very little details available at that time. In fact there basically wasn't any at all. Today we have a bit more to go on including an actual trailer.

All of the new details game from an interview between Famitsu and the current Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka. So basically Sonic Runners is going to be an auto-running side-scrolling game but with stages. Each level, or episode as he calls them, is supposed to run roughly 2 minutes in length. So the game is going to be gear towards having both short bursts of gameplay as well as long ones should you feel like grinding out levels. While the main focus will be on Sonic, as per usual, other character will be making an appearance as well including Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman.

As you are probably guessing, there will also be power-ups available to use like most running style games. According to Takashi, Sonic Team is looking to have a fair amount of levels available at launch as well, hoping that the number will be around 50 to start off with. Sonic Runners won't stray too far from the level style of previous Sonic games either, featuring things like loops and springs. There will also be plenty of hidden routes you can discover as well throughout the game's levels.

As for a release date, nothing specific was mentioned, only that it will be arriving soon in Japan and most likely worldwide at around the same time. Like all running games, Sonic Runners will be free with optional IAPs. The interview is pretty long so if you want to check it out, just head over to Famitsu.
