Latest Android platform version numbers show KitKat on the rise, Honeycomb finally gone

Right on cue, Google has released the latest platform versions numbers for Android. They're largely in line with what you'd expect — KitKat increases at the expense of older OS versions. But Android 2.3 Gingerbread — arguably the version that saw Android come into its own — is still hanging in there. Here's how it breaks down for the seven days that ended June 4th:

Android 4.4 KitKat: 13.6 percent, up from 8.5 percent at the beginning of May. Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean: 58.4 percent, which sat at 60.8 percent a month ago. Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich: 12.3 percent, down from 13.4 percent. Android 2.3 Gingerbread: 14.9 percent, down from 16.2 percent

Yes, this is finally the disappearance of Android 3.x, Honeycomb, from the numbers as it has less than 0.1 percent of the market. Outside of that, this is more movement in the right direction with KitKat making big gains.
