Android L Developer Preview Images Now Available for the Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7!
Although we all knew it was coming, yesterday’s unveiling of Android L took the tech world by storm thanks to Material Design, the new Recents menu, improved notifications, and Project Volta. While we’re still several months away from Android L’s final release, Google has provided developer preview images that can be installed on end user devices.
As described in yesterday’s I/O 2014 keynote, the developer preview images are available for the Nexus 5 (hammerhead) and WiFi-only 2013 Nexus 7 (razor). Naturally to install these images, you will need to run a full factory image install, which means that all your current data will be lost. In other words, don’t forget to backup your device. Those wishing to revert will need to download the appropriate Nexus restore images.
Install the L Preview System Image
Warning: This is a preview version of the Android system image, and is subject to change. Your use of this system image is governed by the Android SDK Preview License Agreement. The Android preview system image is not a stable release, and may contain errors and defects that can result in damage to your computer systems, devices, and data. The preview Android system image is not subject to the same testing as the factory OS and can cause your phone and installed services and applications to stop working.
You can get in on the action by heading over to the Android L Developer Preview page and downloading either image.
