Android Gamer: Sony D6503 Sirius hands-on video surfaces alongside Xperia Tablet Z2 specs

Apparently the Sony D6503 “Sirius” just can’t stay out of the leaky spotlight. After showing its face a couple of times last month and then reappearing over the weekend, the still-unannounced handset is back again today.

YouTube user Rimas Flyil has posted a 12-minute video walkthrough of the D6503 that covers both its hardware and software. There are quite a few details about the device revealed in the video, so we’re going to break ‘em down in an easy-to-digest bullet list:

Hardware includes the same OmniBalance design used with other recent Xperia smartphones
Dedicated camera button, microSD slot and magnetic charging port all included
Software is Android 4.4 KitKat running beneath Sony’s custom user interface
Smart Call Handling feature lets users answer an incoming call by holding the phone up to their ear, reject a call by shaking the device or silence the ringer by flipping the phone over
Ability to select which apps can send notifications
Double-tap to wake
Glove Mode bumps up touchscreen sensitivity
Simple Home launcher
Smart Backlight Control will keep the phone’s display on while the user is looking at it
4K video capture

But wait, there’s more! Another Sony leak has surfaced today thanks to @evleaks, who has shared what are said to be the specs of Sony’s new Xperia Tablet Z2. The device is expected to feature a 10.1-inch 1920×1080 screen with Sony’s Triluminos display tech as well as 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras.

Purportedly packed inside of the Tablet Z2′s 6.4mm-thick, waterproof frame is a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 6000mAh battery. The slate is said to be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat.

It’s worth noting that, as with other leaks, nothing here is official until the folks at Sony make it so. Should everything in this latest pair of leaks hold true, though, the D6503 Sirius and Xperia Tablet Z2 should be respectable upgrades to the Xperia Z1 and Tablet Z. Consumers hoping for radical overhauls from those two devices are likely to be disappointed, but anyone that just wants a high-end Android handset or tablet could end up doing alright with the Sirius and Tablet Z2. Here’s to hoping that Sony opens up about them both at MWC next week.
