Sony calls it a day with software updates for a host of older devices

It's the end of the road, but not totally unexpected

In not totally un-expected news, Sony has announced that a bunch of its older – read mostly 2012 – devices won't be getting any more software updates. It's a pretty hefty list, but all things have a shelf life. As it stands the Xperia Arc S, Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Ion, Xperia Acro S, Xperia Go, Xperia P, Xperia J, Xperia Miro, Xperia Sola, Xperia Tipo and Xperia U are done. 

If you're still holding on to one of these devices then it's sure to be a bit of a blow. But phones coming up on two-years old and with Snapdragon S3 chips inside were always going to reach this day sooner or later. Some, like the Xperia S, made it to Jelly Bean having launched on Gingerbread, which isn't a bad run all told.
