More details have emerged about the Galaxy S6′s camera

Further details about the camera on the Galaxy S6 have emerged, courtesy of SamMobile. The source cited in the report has been using a Galaxy S6 prototype that features a 20-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The 20-megapixel rear camera features optical image stabilization and the ability to shoot in several different resolutions and aspect ratios. The 5-megapixel front-facing camera is the same as the one found on the Galaxy A series of devices.

SamMobile‘s source has also given information on new camera and gallery software. Samsung is using the new camera APIs from Lollipop to enable a “Pro” camera mode on the Galaxy S6. This will include three different focusing modes including manual focusing, control over shutter speeds and the ability to save RAW images for better quality in post-processing. The Gallery app is designed to be more intuitive with text accompanying symbols within the app, making navigation easier for novices.

It’s unclear whether or not the 20-megapixel sensor will make it to the standard Galaxy S6. SamMobile says that it is possible that the 20-megapixel sensor will be confined to the Galaxy Edge, which will be less widely available and will already come with a premium price tag.

Samsung has also begun to hype the camera on the Galaxy S6 by putting up a blog post entitled, “The Future of Cameras is in a Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.” The article doesn’t give any details, but recaps the progression of cameras through past Galaxy S smartphones.
