Android debuts beta channel to test new WebView

How do apps show HTML content when they need to refer or point to a website? We’re glad you asked! That capability in Android belongs a feature called WebView. By the name alone, it allows apps to show HTML content from websites. To test and generate feedback for the newest version of WebView in Android 5.0, Android Dev has come up a new beta channel.

The latest WebView versions in Android Lollipop incorporate lots and lots of bug fixes, some new web platform APIs, and some updates from Chromium. Android Dev is offering some cool new APIs for those who want to beta test the latest WebView versions. Become a beta channel tester, provide feedback, get cool APIs. Cool deal.

Android says that the first version of WebView offered in the beta channel will be based on Chrome 40. This means, in layman’s terms, that when your app points to some outside content residing in the internet, WebView will be rendering that content using Chrome-like views.
