Access your desktop on Android with Chrome Remote Desktop
Have you ever been using your Android device and thought, “I wish there were a dead simple way to access my desktop computer from this thing that was free and only took five minutes to set up?” Cloud services like Google Drive have helped to make accessing all your files everywhere easy, and products like Google Hangouts have made troubleshooting a family member’s computer easier than ever. But sometimes there’s nothing like the real thing.
Released today on Google Play, Android users with any device running 4.0 and above can now access their desktop from anywhere using Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop app. I’ve had a moment to test the app on a Nexus 7 and so far everything seems to be working well, multiple desktops and all. Simply install the Chrome Remote Desktop app from the Chrome web store onto your desktop, follow the prompts — which include downloading a couple things, signing into a Google account and creating a PIN — install the Chrome Remote Desktop app on your Android device of choice and you’ll be up and running. Video playback isn’t perfect, and I was experiencing sound issues, but everything else worked smoothly.
