nexusae0_bonusicon_thumb

Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got a speed-running platformer, an unconventional space shooter, a Battleship-inspired defense game, an Adventure Game CCG, and a spooky point-and-click adventure. Without further ado:

Mikey Shorts

Some games hint at their inspirations, subtly including game elements from classic titles. There's nothing subtle about Mikey Shorts: It's a Mario-style platformer and proud of it, dammit. Specifically it's based around the idea of the 'speed run' - technically it's a runner game, but the levels are carefully created (and they end), putting the focus more on precise timing and navigation than simply staying alive. Customizable virtual controls are also a big plus.

RUN, JUMP, and SLIDE through the land to help Mikey Shorts rescue the people. Collect coins to buy fun disguises along the way.

• Golden Shorts are hidden in all Story levels

Tilt to Live 2: Redonkulous

Mix a space shooter with a rolling marble game, and you might get something very similar to Tilt to Live. A combination of unique game elements and quirky humor made the first game notable, so it's back with better graphics, more tools, and much, much bigger bosses. The game has a staggering amount of variety... and no in-app purchases. Woo!

Return to a world of fast-paced, tilt-only arcade action. You’ll flee a relentless onslaught of dastardly dots, desperately darting between single-use weapon orbs. Each orb provides a unique burst of fiery relief. Sometimes it’s lasery relief. It really depends.

Features:
• Designed for both mobile devices and tablets.
• Two gametypes: Classic Mode (normal difficulty) and Code Red (too hard)
• A brand new weapon arsenal. Can you unlock them all?
• A new scoring system, powered by tricks you can do with weapons or your arrow
• Diabolical boss encounters
• Flaunt your highscore on your Google Play friends' game over screens. Or be ashamed of it.
• Tons of Google Play achievements, many of which include jokes and humors

Artillery Strike

Imagine Battleship with fewer tiles and better graphics, and you've got the basic gist behind Artillery Strike. It's essentially a tower defense game where all you do is shoot, pausing periodically to upgrade your guns or place new ones to replace those that have been destroyed. Online multiplayer via Google Games is a big plus, but a freemium model is a bit of a letdown.

--

You are the Commanding Officer of an Artillery regiment during World War II. Protect Mother Russia against the German war machine. Like the famous Battleship gameplay, choose, deploy and arm your units on the battlefield, because your enemy will be ruthless. Lock down the area and try to spot the enemy positions: when you have them … fire at will. The best tactic is attack. Eradicate your enemy before he annihilates you.

Card Wars - Adventure Time

Adventure Time's inexplicable popularity has always been a mystery to me, but if you're a fan, you'll no doubt recognize this as a digital version of the card game played in one episode of the whimsical show. It's got the usual mechanics that should be familiar to general battle card game fans, with the addition of specific lanes for combat. Unfortunately it's a full four bucks plus in-app purchases for more cards/deck slots/what have you.

--

Floop the Pig. It’s Adventure Time CARD WARS. Play the game inspired by the Adventure Time episode, “Card Wars”. Summon creatures and cast spells to battle your way to victory. Command an army of awesome warriors, including Husker Knights, Cool Dog, the Immortal Maize Walker, and even the Pig to destroy your opponent’s forces. Place towers and cast spells to unleash ultimo attacks. Collect new cards to customize your deck for each opponent. Level up your creatures, spells, and towers, or fuse them together to make your cards even more powerful.

NothingElse - A macabre Tale

If you're in the mood for an adventure game (that's point-and-click adventure, not we-don't-know-what-to-call-this-genre action adventure) with an unapologetically bleak, old-school aesthetic, then give NothingElse a try. It's your usual side-scrolling, room by room affair interspersed with text-based story progression (think Donnie Darko) and a few puzzles for kicks. It's free with no in-app purchases.

--

NothingElse is a short macabre tale. Try to grasp the sense of this weird story through symbolism and riddles.
