Twitter is bringing back the reverse-chronological feed

It’s been two years since Twitter introduced the algorithmic feed which would show Twitter users the “top tweets” before mangling the rest of your feed’s content. That change didn’t go over well at the time, but Twitter stuck to its guns and we’ve had to live with it ever since. But! Times are changing (finally) and Twitter has just confirmed that it will be rolling out an important toggle so users can switch between the ranked tweets and a return to the reverse-chronological feed. The new option is rolling out today for the iOS app and it’s “coming soon” to Android users.

You will see a new star icon at the top right of your screen when the feature arrives for you. Tapping it will bring up a panel that will allow you to choose how you see your tweets. “Go back home” will show you the “top tweets” first in your feed, so those ranked items that you’ve grown accustomed to over the last three years (if you use the stock app). “See the latest tweets” will get you back to the relaunched reverse-chronological order.

The best news is that the more you use the app and the more you use the reverse-chronological order, the app will learn what you prefer and just default to that option eventually. That means you won’t have to constantly switch, which is good news.

Better late than never, right?
