NVIDIA SHIELD TV update brings Amazon Music and 5.1 audio for YouTube, holiday discount also launches

Today NVIDIA’s got some big news for both existing SHIELD TV owners and anyone that’s been thinking about picking up the Android TV box.

First up, an update to SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.2 is now rolling out to the SHIELD TV. The update brings support for Amazon Music on SHIELD TV, letting you stream tunes using either the Prime Music subscription included with an Amazon Prime account or the premium Amazon Music Unlimited service.

The update also brings support for 5.1 audio on YouTube, which NVIDIA says makes the SHIELD TV the first streaming media player to offer this feature. You can now turn on auto-updates for easier updating in the future, customize the Quick Settings, and use SMBv3 when connecting SHIELD TV to a NAS or PC. There are a ton of other fixes and improvements, too, and you can read about all of them right here.

NVIDIA is also knocking $30 off the SHIELD TV for the holiday season. This includes the standard model with a remote, the Gaming Edition that adds a controller, and the Smart Home Edition that bundles in a SmartThings Link to help you control smart home devices. The $30 discount is available at Amazon, Best Buy, and NVIDIA’s online store. The discounts will be available through December 31, 2018.

The NVIDIA SHIELD TV is one of the best Android TV set-top boxes you can buy thanks to the support that NVIDIA has shown the device since its release. Now it’s on sale, too, making it a great option as a gift for a loved one or yourself this holiday season.
