Nokia 8.1 now official with 6.18-inch display, Android Pie, and more

HMD Global and Nokia have been working together for quite some time now, and the two companies have just announced the newest member to their Android lineup.

The Nokia 8.1 is a solid mid-range handset, featuring a large display, a powerful processor under the hood, and a variety of features that should help the handset standout. That starts with the 6.18-inch display which features a notch on the top and a chin on the bottom and supports HDR10 for High Dynamic Range. There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor under the hood along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. The battery measures in at 3500mAh.

The Nokia 8.1 will launch with Android 9 Pie out of the box and boast a pair of cameras on the back: 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel shooters with optic image stabilization and ZEISS Optics. Around front, the Nokia 8.1 features a 20MP adaptive front-facing camera. The handset is held together by a durable metal frame.

Nokia and HMD Global’s newest smartphone supports a microSD card up to 400GB for expandable storage, there is a USB-C port for charging, and the battery supports up to 18W fast charging. The device also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for good measure.

The Nokia 8.1 will be available in Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel when it launches in mid-December. It will be priced at 399 Euro (~$452) when it arrives.
