Google’s Project Fi might support Samsung, OnePlus, and iPhones beginning today

Project Fi, Google’s MVNO wireless service, isn’t just for Pixel smartphones anymore. And it looks like the service will soon support even more handsets.

Droid-Life is reporting that Project Fi will soon support Android smartphones from Samsung, OnePlus, LG, and Motorola. But that’s not all, because apparently Google is also going to start offering support for Apple’s iPhone lineup as well. This information originally surfaced in a since-pulled report from BGR.

There are some catches, though. It sounds like the full “Project Fi experience” won’t be part of the deal for these handsets that customers bring to the Project Fi network. Since Google won’t be selling them directly through the wireless service, they might not support things like fast network switching between T-Mobile, Sprint, and Wi-Fi, or even enhanced network features.

If Google does make this an officially official new approach to Project Fi, it would certainly be a nice addition to the MVNO. It’s a shame that customers who do bring their OnePlus 6T, Samsung Galaxy S9, or other supported devices to the network won’t get that full experience, though. Maybe that changes at some point in the future.
