Samsung Galaxy A9 launches with four rear cameras

Samsung has made the Galaxy A9 official, the world’s first smartphone to feature four rear cameras. Just yesterday, the device popped up in a couple leaks, and now Samsung has given us the low-down on this powerful smartphone.

The rear cameras are arranged vertically. At the top is an ultra-wide 8-megapixel camera with 120 degrees of visibility and an f/2.4 aperture. Next is a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and an f/2.4 aperture. Third is the main camera, featuring a 24-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. Finally, the fourth camera is a 5-megapixel depth camera with an f/2.2 aperture. And for good measure, the front camera boasts a 24-megapixel sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

Other specs include:

  • 6.3-inch 1080×2220 Super AMOLED display
  • Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor (2.2GHz quad + 1.8GHz quad)
  • 6GB/8GB RAM
  • 128GB storage plus microSD card slot
  • 3800mAh battery
  • Android 8.0 Oreo

The Galaxy A9 will be offered in three color options of Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue, and Bubblegum Pink. The device will launch in the UK and other select markets in November. For reference, the Galaxy A9 will be priced at £549 ($724 USD) when it launches in the UK.

What are your thoughts on the Galaxy A9? Is this practical or just a marketing ploy?
