Nokia 7.1 offers dual rear cameras with ZEISS Optics and Android One for $349

HMD Global has already released a couple of Android One smartphones under the Nokia brand this year, and now the company is gearing up to do it again.

The Nokia 7.1 is now official, boasting a 5.84-inch 2280×1080 display with PureDisplay tech, which means higher contrast, greater clarity, and HDR support. There’s a notch at the top of that screen that’s home to an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Around on the back of the Nokia 7.1 is a dual camera setup with ZEISS Optics. The 12MP sensor has 1.28um pixels, f/1.8 aperture, and Electronic Image Stabilization, while the 5MP secondary camera bosts an f/2.4 aperture. HMD has baked some special features into the Nokia 7.1 to utilize those cameras, like a Pro Camera Mode that gives you control over the white balance, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. There’s a Live Bokeh feature that’ll help you give your photos a portrait mode look, and you can also take a bothie, which lets you take a photo or video with both the front and rear cameras.

Inside the Nokia 7.1 is a Snapdragon 636 processor, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of built-in storage, and a dual SIM slot that also lets you use one SIM and one microSD card slot. There’s a 3060mAh battery included, and HMD says that you can get 50 percent of your battery back in 30 minutes using USB-C fast charging. Also of note is that the Nokia 7.1 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is something not all smartphones can say.

All of those features are packed into a body that has a 6000 series aluminum CNC machined frame and die cast metal center, which should help to give the Nokia 7.1 a more premium feel.

The Nokia 7.1 comes preloaded with Android One, based on Android Oreo. Since its an Android One device, the Nokia 7.1 will get three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates.

Available in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel color options, the Nokia 7.1 will begin rolling out in select markets in October. Pricing will start at €319 for the 3GB/32GB model and go up to €349 for the 4GB/64GB version. In the U.S., the Nokia 7.1 will cost $349 and will be available from Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H. Pre-orders begin October 5th ahead of the October 28th launch.

The Nokia 7.1 looks like a solid addition to HMD’s lineup of Nokia smartphones. It’s got a respectable mid-range feature set with an aggressive price tag, and its aluminum frame should help to give the Nokia 7.1 a more premium feel. And then there’s Android One, which will ensure that you’re up-to-date with OS upgrades for two years and security updates for three.
