Google Assistant is getting even more helpful from the lockscreen

Google has already discussed its newest hardware this month, officially announcing new devices like the Pixel 3 and Home Hub, and today it’s talking about how Google Assistant is going to make those devices even better.

In a public blog post, Google has outlined some of the major new software features it’s bringing to its newest devices as well as its older hardware. That starts with Google Assistant, which is getting a lot more helpful from the lockscreen. Now the digital assistant can help with things like, “Hey Google, what’s next on my calendar?” without the requirement of completely unlocking the handset.

There is also a new daily overview that users can access by activating Assistant with the voice command and then swiping up. This will show you important reminders you have coming up along with recent notes you’ve jotted down, recommendations, and more. All of this should be easier to look at, thanks to the updated UI Google recently implemented.

Beyond that, Google Assistant-equipped smart displays from the likes of JBL and Lenovo can now support multi-room audio. And the Google Home app can help bring Google’s own digital wellbeing efforts to those smart displays as well, showing users screen usage and help wind down later in the day.
