Essential Phone update brings October 2018 security patches, notch settings

Good news, Essential Phone owners! There’s a significant new update coming your way!

Essential has announced a new update for the Essential Phone that bumps it to build PPR1.181005.034. This update is based on Android 9.0 Pie and includes the brand new October 2018 Android security patches. That’s not all that’s in there, though.

Also included in today’s update is notch support. With it, you can customize the use of the Essential Phone’s notch area by choosing from three defaults for all applications: “Controlled by application”, “Always use notch area”, and “Never use notch area”.

This update is now rolling out over the air, so if you’ve got an Essential Phone, keep an eye out for it!
