Google releases September security update for Pixel and Nexus devices

It’s that time of month again. Google has released the September security patch for Android, and the updates are now rolling out to all supported Pixel and Nexus users.

The update is now available for the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL based on Android 9.0 Pie. The Pixel C, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are also being supported with security patches but on older builds of Android. Google says that there were no reports of these now-fixed exploits being used, but many of the fixes are labeled as critical.

The update should be hitting phones now, but you can also download the OTA image and factory image from Google for your flashing pleasure. From here it’s up to other manufacturers to release this security patch for their users, though it’s very rare that this happens consistently and in a reasonable amount of time.
