Xiaomi’s Poco F1 features Snapdragon 845, costs $300
Poco is a sub-brand of Xiaomi, which was announced earlier this month, and now we’ve got our first look at the Poco F1, the first smartphone to come out of the outfit.
It’s already being labeled as a “flagship killer”, and it certainly ticks all the boxes you’d might expect from such a handset. The Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch display with a resolution of 2246×1080 and a notch on the top so the aspect ratio is set at 18.7:9. Under the hood the Poco F1 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with liquid cooling features.
Around back, there is the familiar dual camera setup. The primary camera is a 12MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.9, while the secondary camera is 5 megapixels. The cameras support EIS for more stable video recording and they also offer portrait support, so owners can blur the background of their images to put more of the focus on the foreground.
The front-facing camera is a 20MP offering, which features support for AI scene detection and more. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a USB-C port for charging. The hybrid SIM slot can host a pair of SIM cards if needed, or one SIM card and a microSD card for expandable storage. The battery measures in at 4000mAh and supports Quick Charge 3.0. It also supports face unlock and has a fingerprint reader positioned on the back.
The Poco F1 is running Android 8.1 Oreo under Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI skin. Android Pie is already on the docket for the Poco F1 at some point in the future as well.
As far as availability is concerned, the new smartphone will be available in India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and France. In fact, it’s already on sale. The base model features 6GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, and it’s priced at ₹20,999 (~$301 USD). The 6GB of RAM/128GB of built-in storage option is priced at ₹23,999 (about $344 USD). The variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage will set buyers back ₹28,999 (~$415 USD). Finally, there is the Poco F1 Armoured Edition, which boasts 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage and also has a back panel that’s covered in kevlar. That’s priced at ₹29,999 (about $430 USD).
That’s certainly quite a bit of specs and features for a handset that comes in at under $500. If you can get your hands on a Poco F1, will you?
