Motorola Moto Z3 now official with a 5G Moto Mod for Verizon’s network

Way back in May we got our first look at what was being called at the time the Moto Z3 Play. At the same time, we also saw a new kind of Moto Mod: one that would actually connect the smartphone to Verizon’s 5G network.

Verizon is still working deploying its 5G network, and the Moto Z3 Play wasn’t an official handset at the time, so it was just a quick preview of what was to come. Here we are just over a couple of months later and the Moto Z3 and the Moto 5G Moto Mod are now official.

First, the phone. It has a 6-inch AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot that can host cards up to 2TB. There are a pair of 12MP cameras on the back with an 8MP front-facing camera on the other side. Motorola included a fingerprint reader with the Moto Z3, but unlike most phones it’s not on the back; it’s actually on the right side of the phone. The Moto Z3 features a 3000mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo, and a USB-C port.

As far as pricing and availability are concerned, the Moto Z3 is a Verizon exclusive, and it will be available on August 16. It will cost $20 per month for 24 months, with a full retail cost of $480. (Verizon will give you $300 off the Moto Z3 if you switch to the big red network and trade in your old device.)

MotoMod-5G-Verizon

Now, for the new 5G Moto Mod. It does exactly what the name suggests: offers a connection to Verizon’s 5G network. It’s equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 modem to help the Moto Z3 get on Verizon’s 5G network when that goes live starting in 2019.

The 5G Moto Mod will go on sale sometime in early 2019, but there’s no word on pricing just yet.

What do you think of the Moto Z3 and its newest Moto Mod?
