BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X announced with big batteries

Earlier this year, we heard some rumblings about a new full-touch BlackBerry phone that would be India. Fast-forward several months and that device has been officially revealed.

The BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X made their official debut in India today. The Android 8.1 devices are manufactured Optiemus Infracom, the company that licenses the BlackBerry brand in India similar to how TCL licensed it to make the KEYone and KEY2.

These new BlackBerry phones have several features in common. They’re both packing 5.99-inch 2160×1080 displays, 64GB of internal storage, 16MP front-facing cameras, and rear fingerprint readers. Both phones are also the first BlackBerry smartphones to offer face unlock functionality. Rounding out the list of features that the Evolve and Evolve X share are their big 4000mAh batteries.

Other specs of the BlackBerry Evolve include a Snapdragon 450 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 16MP front-facing camera. There’s a dual rear camera setup on there, too, with one 13MP RGB sensor and one 13MP monochrome sensor.

The BlackBerry Evolve X is the higher-end model of the two, offering a Snapdragon 660 processor and 6GB of RAM. The Evolve X has dual rear cameras, but its setup includes a 12MP standard camera and a 13MP telephoto lens. Also of note is that the Evolve X offers wireless charging.

The Evolve X will be the first of the pair to launch, debuting in India at the end of August at a price of Rs 34,990 ($510 USD). The Evolve will follow in mid-September with a price tag of Rs 24,990 ($364 USD).
