Android Wear is officially rebranded to Wear OS

It wasn’t long ago that it was speculated Google was planning a name change to its Android Wear platform, and it turns out that that change is happening.

As reported today by Droid-Life, Google has officially rebranded Android Wear to Wear OS. The change apparently happened early this morning, and it includes redirecting visitors of the original Android Wear website to wearos.google.com. As you can see from the image above, which is the first thing visitors to the site will see, Wear OS is front and center.

And while the page is promoting the smartwatch platform as a whole, it’s not a surprise to see that Google Assistant is also getting top billing, too. It’s the first item before you start scrolling through things like featured apps from Google, health and fitness, and other features baked into Wear OS.

At the time of publication, Google hasn’t made any official announcements just yet. But the website is live and they even have a Twitter account ready to go. It’s likely the company will announce something official soon enough.

What do you think of the rebranding?
