Featured Android Game Review: Zombie Derby [Racing]

Our friends at HeroCraft launched another game, and if you are a zombie fan, you’re going to want to check this one out. It’s called Zombie Derby and it’s all about driving a truck or car as far as you can go while killing zombies along the way. You don’t want to run over the zombies, you want to shoot them with the gun on top of your truck. Running them over will kill them, but unfortunately you won’t get any points. You will have to conserve your gas and your firepower to make it to the end of each stage.
If you like games in which there are constant upgrades, you will like Zombie Derby. I am generally not too big of a fan of constant upgrades, and I have to say that this one really emphasizes it. This game only has four stages, which doesn’t sound like much, but you won’t be able to complete them that quickly either. You will need to constantly re-race each stage in order to gain coins to buy enough upgrades to get you through. For example, there is a tutorial stage, but it’s impossible to get through it without upgrades. You will need to upgrade your fuel at least two times. On top of all this, you will need to remember certain obstacles along the track like mini-cliffs that you need to make sure you are going fast enough to jump over.
So I know this game might sound boring having to replay a level over and over, but it really can be a lot of fun. The premise is simple and something that you can play whenever you have a few minutes. It’s a 2D-style game with 3D graphics so you don’t have to worry about steering your vehicle. All you have to worry about is the the fire button for killing the zombies on the road, the gas pedal, and the nitro pedal. Depending on your upgrades, you will only have a certain amount of shots so you will need to conserve them. You also have to concentrate on how much gas you have. You can conserve gas by taking your finger of the gas pedal when going over jumps, but unfortunately since you can always upgrade, it’s hard to really tell when you have really mastered the level.
Upgrading isn’t just about fuel as you will be able to upgrade your nitro levels, your gun, and certain aspects of your vehicle. There are four different vehicles that you can purchase. You start with the “Redneck” pickup truck, and upgrades include the “Hunter” pickup truck, the “Buggy”, the “Sledge”, and the “Harvester”
Zombie Derby is absolutely free and can be completed without in-app purchases. If you do want to purchase coins, you can do so in many increments including opening the entire game for $9.99. Check out their trailer video below as well as download links to get started. As always, let me know what you think.
