Google Assistant coming to smart screen devices and Android Auto

Google Assistant recently made the jump from phones to headphones and tablets, and soon it’s going to appear on even more new types of devices.

Google says that Assistant is coming to new voice-activated speakers from Altec Lansing, Anker Innovations, Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, LG, Klipsch, Knit Audio, Memorex, RIVA Audio, and SōLIS. The Google Assistant is coming to new smart screen devices, too, with JBL, Lenovo, LG, and Sony all crafting Google Assistant smart screens.

Lenovo revealed their model today, called the Smart Display. The Lenovo Smart Display runs Google Assistant on an HD display that comes in 8-inch and 10-inch sizes. With that screen, you can make video calls, watch YouTube, view Google Maps, and more.

Other features of the Lenovo Smart Display include the Qualcomm SDA 624 system on a chip (SoC) with an integrated CPU, GPU, and DSP, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There’s a 10-watt full-range speaker in there, too.

Lenovo plans to launch the Smart Display early this summer, with pricing starting at $199.99 for the 8-inch model and going up to $249.99 for the 10-inch version.

Google Assistant is also coming to your car. Android Auto will soon support Google Assistant when you connect your Android phone to a supported car. What’s more, Google says that it’s working with auto makers to integrate Assistant directly into their cars, with no phone required.

Also of note is that Google Assistant will soon let you do things like check your fuel level, lock doors, and more on Kia and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. This feature is already available on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai vehicles.
