Tronsmart Presto 10,000 mAh power bank with Quick Charge 3.0 and FCP review

Power banks are a common accessory, and most support Qualcomm Quick Charge these days. But some companies love to use proprietary charging methods. Huawei is one of them, and devices like the Honor 8 and Mate 9 require FCP to charge quickly. Thankfully, Tronsmart has created a power bank that can fast charge Huawei devices with FCP support.

Build quality

Like many power banks, this one is constructed out of soft touch plastic. It feels great in the hand, and despite being par for the course, it’s still nice. The button on the side is stiff and clicky and the four white LEDs aren’t overly bright and well diffused. It all gives the overall impression of quality.

There are three ports on the bottom. One is a regular USB port, the green one supports Quick Charge 3.0 and Huawei FCP, and the microUSB port is used for charging the bank. I wish this was a USB Type-C port.

Included is a cheap, unbranded drawstring bag and a nice 9-inch flat microUSB cable. Having a short charging cable is great for charging your device without clutter, but the use of microUSB once again diminishes its future proofing.

Charging

With the standard USB port, charging is obviously going to be painfully slow. But the green USB port can do both Quick Charge 3.0 and Huawei FCP. The addition of FCP is a huge deal for Huawei owners, and having Quick Charge alongside it is a great bonus as well. You’ll be able to charge a majority of devices on the market quickly.

The rated 10,000 mAh capacity doesn’t quite match up to output. I managed to get around two and a half charges on my Honor 8, which equates to around 7,200 mAh of output. The phone was unused during this time. While it’s not a very accurate measurement of capacity, it worked pretty well for the Cygnett power bank so it’s unfortunate that this power bank couldn’t reach its claimed numbers.

DSD_4143Though it doesn’t quite match up to the rated capacity, it still offers a great set of features for the price. The fact that it supports Huawei FCP is a big plus for owners of supported Huawei devices, as you’ll finally be able to charge your device quickly on the go. It’s a must have for people with a Huawei device.

Combine that with good build quality, compact size, and low price, and you get a great power bank.
