Bixby Voice now available to Galaxy S8 in the U.S.

Today’s a big day for Bixby.

Bixby Voice is now launching in U.S. English in the United States and Korea. To get it, you Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners need to update your app to the latest version and you should be good to go.

Samsung has integrated Bixby Voice with many of its core apps, and the company touts that you can use it to do just about anything that you could do by tapping or typing. For example, you can tell Bixby to take a selfie, change your alarm, check the weather, activate your flashlight, and search for specific photos and then create an album with them. You can say “Hi Bixby” to bring up your new assistant.

Other native and third-party apps will support Bixby Voice through Bixby Labs, and Samsung says that select apps are offering “preliminary” Bixby integration.

Samsung has made a big deal out of Bixby, talking it up at the Galaxy S8’s introduction and dedicating a hardware button on the GS8 to the new assistant. That’s why it was disappointing to see Bixby Voice miss the launch of the Galaxy S8 in the U.S. a few months ago. Now Bixby Voice is ready to meet Galaxy S8 owners in the U.S., though, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it performs now and how it improves as S8 owners continue to use it.
