Movado, Hugo Boss, and Tommy Hilfiger prepping Android Wear smartwatches
There’s a big watch show happening in Switzerland right now, and today some new Android Wear smartwatches were announced there.
The Movado Connect collection will include five men’s styles, and Movado plans to include more than 100 dial designs that are based on the company’s single dot design that it’s become known for. Spec details for the Connect are light, but Movado does say that it’s running Android Wear 2.0 and that it’s got “smooth edge-to-edge crystal” and an always-on display. Wareable spent some wrist-on time with the Connect and found that it’s also got NFC, but no heart rate monitor, GPS, or water resistance.
Movado will launch the Connect watches in fall 2017 at a starting price of $495.
Also revealed today is the Hugo Boss Touch. This is another Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch, and this one’s packing a case of stainless steel, support for swapping bands, and five watch faces designed by Hugo Boss. NFC is included for Android Pay, but there’s no heart rate monitor to be found here.
The Hugo Boss Touch will launch this August for $395.
The most affordable smartwatch in this trio is the Tommy Hilfiger TH24/7You. Details for this watch are light, too, but Wareable reports that it’s missing both NFC and a heart rate monitor. This Android Wear smartwatch will launch later in 2017 for $299.
These new smartwatches are focusing more on being stylish than being fully-loaded, which is why they’re lacking features like a heart rate monitor for fitness tracking. With their well-known brand names, these watches could bring new folks into the Android Wear ecosystem, and so they may be good for the platform even if they may not apply to the most spec-focused consumers.
